An adjustable lounge chair from one of Ohio’s leading furniture craftsman, Arden Riddle. A hand crafted frame of black walnut with cased spring supports makes this a very unusual and comfortable chair. Unlike George Nakashima’s use of spindles in his black walnut seating frames Arden Riddle uses a series of springs cased in walnut colored vinyl tubing which is an interesting visual.
His incorporation of vinyl covered springs in conjunction with black walnut is similar to Walter Lamb’s use of vinyl strapping with his marine bronze frames. There are a number of designers who took the post war product vinyl and saw it as an interesting possibility to utilize in their furniture in inventive ways.
The adjustable lounge chair are upholstered with its original designed cushions and headrest.
The chair has been authenticated and I learned that the lack of the typical AR stamp indicates that it was created prior to 1965.
The lounge is in very good condition.
