A magnificent English hexagonal porcelain covered jar, in the Worcester porcelain pattern which originated in the 1760’s: scale patterned cobalt blue glazed ground, punctuated by gilt and polychrome decorated cartouches framed in finely gilded Rococo borders and containing fanciful and colorful birds, commonly known as the “Chelsea Bird” pattern. Smaller cartouches contain butterflies and insects borrowed from 18th century Chinese export porcelain design. Along with six similar dishes, four round and two square. 19th century, all unmarked.
