This reclaimed red hearth redwood was salvaged from becoming landfill. The site is a historical landmark in San Francisco designed by Bernard Maybeck in 1909. It was deemed to small and dirty to be of any more use and that is when I stepped up and took it to the shop for storage. After a couple of months I decided to embark on a never done let alone dream of project. I designed and created from a picture the play kits of two of the most iconic basketball player, Jordan and Bird battling for the win. Designed and manufactured using modern techniques, the idea was to give this gorgeous 100 + year old redwood a new life for many more centuries. The rich red colors within the dirty piece I took home was the best part of 2022. Doubled down on that high with a flawless execution of the idea which strengthened my belief in second chances. Wondering for even just a moment, how far art can be stretch. This gorgeously detailed piece is entirely make from curiosity, the love of woodworking and the emergence of modern technologies . Finished with a durable varnish and no sealer because a signature from each player might be in the cards one day.
