The right side expertly embroidered and painted with a harrowing scene under a willow tree with three male loved ones in despair leaning, crowning, eyes covered about the largest tombstone with cross, inscribed with
‘In memory of HUGH SMITH who died on the 6th of Feb. 1837 aged 57
and of LOUSIA SMITH
who died on the 27th of Feb. 1840, aged 39
R.I.P.’
Apparently unsigned, inscribed in ink on reverse ‘Made in 1840’
Overall condition, not examined out of the frame. it appears that the glass front with painted black border is replaced. The giltwood frame appears to antique and possibly original.
