Absolutely unique very large creole ‘Penca De Balangandan’ from Brazil from around 1960.
Tin base, possibly silver plated.
Traditional slave amulet filled with protective & symbolic charm.
Often carried by (Afro-Brazilian) Bahian women in traditional ceremonies or special events.
Bahian women often were referred to as ‘Brazilian women’.
However, this particular one would have been placed above a door or inside the house for protection.

The Penca De Balangandan features several different symbols or abstract fruit, like oranges, pomegrande, corn cobs, grapes & ‘Fruta do Conde or Fruta Pinha’.

Unusual large size, this amulet is far from commonly found.
