American hardwood fire surround is nicely carved, with floral decor, raised relief and a pair of fluted ionic columns on each side beneath the mantel. The finish has been “marbelized” and painted white.
It would probably be best to strip and refinish, as the fire surround is made of beautiful oak wood which can be stained to preference or painted to suit a particular decorating scheme.
