The large framed painting on canvas applied to board depicts the Frigate Essex. The Essex was a 32 gun ship designed by Hackett and built by Enos Briggs at Salem, Mass at the expense of the citizens of Essex County. She was launched September 30, 1799.
A label on the reverse states the above information and adds, ” Picture painted June 26 1976 by Will B. Robedee from Lines & Sail in Chapelle Book, The History of American Sailing Ships”/ Painting Board 44 x 32 inches.
